Deer Chihuahua – Differentiate It From an Apple Head Chihuahua

There are kennel associations that do not officially recognize some types Chihuahuas. But if you look for such variants, you’ll find there are breeders that sell them and dog rescues that let capable pet owners adopt them. Two such variations include the Apple Head Chihuahua and the Deer Chihuahua.

So even if some dog associations say there are no such differences, and that therefore breeders should not charge for such differences, there are differences. You’re going to find out about those sub-types, one of which is the Deer Head Chihuahua, in this article.

Deer Chihuahuas are bigger than most Chihuahuas

This is most likely the largest Chihuahua variant there is. An average height shows that – the male Deer Chihuahua can reach twelve inches (the usual range for Chihuahuas is about five inches), while the female can grow to at least ten inches. This variant is also heavier, owing to its size – 20 pounds; they can live as long as twenty years with enough care. The long body and proportionally long legs and lend themselves to some health problems, but over all they’re good pets.

Look at the head and the snout – key features of a Deer Chihuahua

The Deer Chihuahua head is “clean,” and has a long muzzle, longer than other kinds of the same breed. Some people have noticed that a Deer Chihuahua’s snout resemble that of a terrier’s. There are also Deer Chihuahuas that have a “bobble head” look.

The possessiveness of a Chihuahua

All Chihuahuas are said to be totally loyal, protective, and possessive of its owner. But then Deer Chihuahuas are different – they are happy, they love to snuggle up with other Chihuahuas on a single master’s lap. Stereotypes are simply overly hyped impressions, and there are exceptions.

Deer Chihuahua – yours maybe the closest type to the original

Should you own a Deer Chihuahua and hear about others saying yours is but a lowly cross-breed distanced from the genuine bloodline, that’s not true. So don’t let news about a Deer Chihuahua being the odd one get to you, it’s actually the very small types of Chihuahuas that are far from the original Chihuahua bloodline.

The Deer Chihuahua is actually great with kids

There’s always been a Chihuahua stereotype. Here’s one such stereotype – people are usually warned against having a Chihuahua in living environments where there are other pets and children. Chihuahuas, based on this stereotype, are by nature easy to snap, aggressive, possessive of their owners, and therefore may harm children and animals in the house because of this personality. What this does not state is that there is at least one Chihuahua variant that’s good with kids and other pets – the Deer Chihuahua. Stereotypes can be misleading, don’t be fooled by this.

Some small dog enthusiasts want an Apple Head Chihuahua and others a Deer Chihuahua. Though they differ in some physical features, perhaps there’s also a difference in temperament between them. Regardless of the particular variant of a Chihuahua you get, you can be sure that the Deer Head Chihuahua that comes into your life is going to be a loyal and loving companion.
