The Smallest of All Dog Breeds Is Chihuahua

Chihuahua

The small dog breed Chihuahua, quite muscular but having a very fine structure of bones, was named after the Chihuahua region of Mexic and is the oldest breed in America. The owners of dogs of this breed of unique personality, very full of energy and also grace, having all along their fifteen years life – the longest life-span of any dog breeds – a human-like expression, are often caressing it “Chi”.

The Very Small But Very Good Watchdog

This breed is known for being a very devoted as well as loyal animal and is very closely attached to their owners and loves a lot of attention being given to it. The Chihuahua is very protective with its master and will guard him boldly and fearlessness from strangers to whom it is very suspicious, making a good watch dog though it may not seem so, due to its gentle as well as loving nature and good temper. In the proximity of their own breed they are very sociable but do not take kindly to other breeds and are also not ideally suited for children.

There are two varieties of Chihuahua, one having a long coat and another with short coat, but the dogs of both varieties have small size, large eyes and large, erect ears. The long coated variety of Chihuahua dogs has very thin hair but it is also very dense. Through standards have been defined many aspects of their weight, facial features and proportions, but their height was not defined, so there are Chihuahuas of many sizes, though all of them are small.

Any size of house can be home for a small Chihuahua dog, which is alert and inteligent, has a strong personality and manifests devotion to its master, who cherish it. The Chihuahua may be thought of as being high-strung but with proper training as well as socialization, it can become a remarkable companion though it may not be ideal for children even though they become very attached to one single person that may even lead to jealousy on its part. The dogs of this breed are clannish, they like only dogs of their breed, but they are brave and dont hesitate to accost other dogs, without thinking at any possible injuries.

The Chihuahua requires veterinary attention for its teeth as well as when giving birth and may also suffer some genetic anomalies, some of which may be neurological like epilepsy as well as seizure disorders. Moreover, they easily luxate their patellas or may suffer of hydrocephalus, and this is also related to its bad genetics, acquired during the very long period of breeding.

Chihuahuas are choosy, they like to eat only the food they pick, and this means only good, nutritious food, of course according to their taste or cravings.

Chihuahua are appreciated for their small size, they are named mini or pocket sized dogs, tiny toy or teacup, as signs of love from the part of their masters who cherish them. When one does eventually own a Chihuahua one can expect a loyal and devoted pet that is somewhat noisy and aggressive towards other dogs, especially those of other breeds. If you want affection from this good pet you should train and socialize it. One may want to learn more about the history and origin of the Chihuahua before purchasing it.

The Chihuahua are dogs of extremes: they are the smallest dogs, the oldest breed in America and also the longer living. They are good watchdogs because they are suspicous with strangers, bold and fearless and, generaly, a noisy breed. With good training, Chihuahua becomes a very devoted and cherished companion, but is not suitable for families having small children
