
The number of animals that bring out in us such a deep sense of love, trust and companionship are few. Dogs rank at the top of this list. Their genetic make up has given them much more energy than humans. The most amazing thing about them is the fact that they were domesticated about fifteen thousand years ago. Originally they descended from the family of wolves. Somewhere in the eastern part of Asia, the very first dog started living with man. Dogs come in various sizes and temperaments.
The chihuahua is the smallest breed of dog known to man. It is believed to have originated from Mexico and has been named after one of its cities. The stories and theories surrounding its actual origins but archaeologists have found its remains in ruins close to Mexico that date back to the year fifteen thirty.
The genetic temperament of its parents greatly influence how a particular dog turns out. It therefore makes it difficult to conclusively state how they are. However, in general these small dogs are ill tempered and can very easily be provoked. When in this foul mood, it is very easy for them to attack. If you are considering to get one, take the time to check on its background. If possible down to the grand parents.
The amazing thing about this small animals is their lifespan. Ordinarily you would expect them to live for a few years. It is not surprising to find one that has lived for up to eighteen years. For its size that is an impressive length of time to post.
This breed is known to have some health complications on a number of issues. They are especially delicate when it comes to the birthing process and dental care. Where possible having a trained veterinarian at hand for this is advisable. Epilepsy and seizures are also common among them. Chihuahuas are the only dog breed to this day that are known to have a semi formed skull at the time of birth. As a result, you have to exercise extreme care for a couple of months before it fully forms.
This dog is not suited for families with children. Especially those who tend to be a little bit impatient. The reason behind this is the fact that they tend to be quite loyal to a particular person and can be over protective.
The situation is made worse when one is around other animals or people. Chihuahuas generally prefer the company of their own kind. Their dens are dear to them, it is not uncommon to find them burrowed in pillows or whatever else they can find. It is when they are in their domain that they feel safe.
