A Well Bred Chihuahua

If you are like a lot of people and want to adopt an adorable Chihuahua puppy, you probably want it grow up to be healthy, strong and well balanced.  You want a dog that can provide loyalty and dependability.  In addition, you do not wish to adopt one that has prior problems that could have been eliminated in its younger years.

Chihuahuas are a cute breed of smaller dog that has experienced a fast growth in popularity.  This is mostly due to the fact that photographers have taken pictures of celebrities out on the town with their cute little Chihuahuas nuzzled under their arms or peeking out of a cute designer handbag.  But you should find out as much as possible about the dog before you rush out and purchase the dog…or the handbag! When you do this, you will know if it will be a good fit.

Locating Chihuahua puppies is fairly simple to do.  Locating the various breeders of these puppies has become easier with all of the tools that are currently available.  What is not as easy to do is to find the right breeder to get a puppy.  Once you tackle this little roadblock, you will be able to tell if this is the proper dog for you.

Breeders frequently will have various terms to describe Chihuahuas.  They can be called Teacup, Pocket Size, Tiny Tot, Miniature or Standard.  It is good to keep in mind that these terms are not utilized to explain the normal characteristics of the breed.  They are instead used by breeders for marketing purposes.  Basically, they are using these terms to over inflate the value of Chihuahua puppies.  People who are really familiar with Chihuahua puppies say that they have an apple or deer head with the former specifying that the dog has a short nose and round head that resembles an apple.  The latter term indicates the Chihuahuas that have long noses and heads that are even more elongated.  Being knowledgeable about this will be beneficial for you when you are doing your research.  This is because you do not want to be scammed into purchasing a Tiny Top or Teacup Chihuahua when these kinds of dogs do not exist.

Chihuahua puppies are little and cute.  However, it is important that you do not forget that although they are just as small as the names that are utilized to describe them, they are still living and breathing animals.  They are  not windup toys.  They have the same type of requirements that other dogs have.  They must be trained and socialized so that they can adapt to other people and dogs.  If you have kids or if the dog will be required to socialize with kids, it is imperative that they are introduced to these children when the dog is still young.  This is so that they will become familiar with the children.  If you fail to take any of these actions, this will probably create a dog that is extremely protective of just one person and or one that will not do well with kids or other dogs.

When they are not bred properly, it is not unusual for Chihuahuas to become sick and very forceful.  This requires that you conduct a good and detailed ancestry search not only on the parents of the dog, but also on the grandparents to find out if their ancestors have a history of disease.  A lot of diseases can be eliminated if you conduct the proper ancestry search before you adopt a Chihuahua.  If you spend an adequate amount of time to become knowledgeable about your Chihuahua puppy before you make a purchase, it will ultimately be a very happy and satisfying experience for you.
